Domotics Lab focuses its activities on the home environment to attain new scenarios in which computing capabilities are not limited to traditional, stand-alone computing devices, but are extended to the management of everyday objects.
In our view, devices, objects and the environment itself have to interact smoothly and support users in carrying out their activities, tasks and rituals.
This is the concept on which "Ambient Intelligence" and "Internet of Things" are based and covers the three key paradigms: ubiquitous computing, ubiquitous communication, and intelligent user friendly interfaces. These key concepts may be seen as the top layer of Domotics.
We thus place the user at the center of future development with an holistic approach which takes into account that socio-technological systems always have a technological, social and political dimension.
Our mission is to realize a "non-deterministic and fully open cyberspace" in which autonomous and intelligent entities and virtual objects will act in full interoperability. This space will be able to auto-organize and auto-adapt itself depending on the user contexts, circumstances, and environments; so anticipating the user needs.
Our guidelines, characterized by an human-centric computer interaction design to achieve a fully-integrated home of the future, are developed by systems and technologies:
To attain this aim, the lab activities combine multiisciplinary fields, including computer science, social science, electrical/electronic engineering, industrial design, architectural design, user interfaces, and cognitive science.
We extend our operational field to urbotics, connecting different AmI environments (home, car, public spaces etc.) in a seamless and unobtrusive way. We pay special attention to elderly, supervision systems for children, help for disabilities, safety and security, telemedicine, distance education, etc.
