Abstract

In this talk, I will overview a selection of topics covering both systems and algorithmic aspects of large-scale data analysis. At the system level, we will overview current research on topics ranging from resource management (e.g. scheduling and elasticity) to multi-query optimization (also known as work-sharing), and indicate current trends in large-scale distributed systems design and architectures. At the algorithmic level, we will focus on machine learning and the intricacies of designing and analyzing scalable algorithms for both bounded and unbounded data, and discuss real-life applications and lessons learned.
