Abstract

In the context of geometry processing, a recurring problem is the decomposition of complex 3D shapes into collections of simpler patches that either satisfy specific constraints or optimize a given objective function. In this talk, I will present a methodology for segmenting 3D manifold meshes into well-formed, compact patches whose boundaries align with predefined directional fields.

I will further illustrate how this patch decomposition framework has been adapted to diverse application domains, including quadrilateral remeshing, digital fashion, advanced manufacturing, and architectural geometry. Finally, I will outline potential future directions, including the extension of the proposed approach to volumetric meshes.
