  • Units: VC
  • Day: 2013-11-06

The Digital Heritage 2013 event, taking place in Marseille (France) on Oct. 28th – Nov. 1st, was an astonishing success. Digital Heritage 2013 was intended as a new international event, federating several conferences on ICT & Heritage, for the first time organized in a single week, with a common program. Co-chaired by Sofia Pescarin (CNR-ITABC), it received an enthusiastic response by the scientific community represented by its 647 registered attendees and 101 full and 110 short papers presented, selected among more than 500 paper submissions. The event program joined together conferences, workshops, special sessions and a virtual heritage exhibition, thus covering a very wide selection of themes and experiences in the digital heritage domain. Conference proceedings have been published by IEEE and will be released in Open Access in one year. Digital Heritage 2013 was also a demonstration of the consolidation reached by the digital heritage community. The results of a poll among the conference attendees showed more than 91% of the people suggested repeating the event in the near future (next year or in two years). Finally, the excellent technical activity running on at CNR was widely recognized and awarded: the “Best Applications Award - Quality of Content” went to the “Imago Bononiae” installation produced by CNR-ITABC, CINECA and Univ. of Bologna; a paper authored by CNR-ISTI was among the six selected Best Papers invited for submitting an extended version to the ACM JOCCH journal; the DigitalHeritage 2013 - Autodesk Award “Best Research Team” went to the Visual Computing Lab of CNR-ISTI.
