Abstract

Personalization and Contextualization are two somehow different, but related, very interesting topics in research and two of the most valuable â??weaponsâ?? in the arsenal of any modern search engine. Personalization focuses on the userâ??s demographics, past queries and is meant to tailor suit the results on a particular user. On the other hand, Contextualization focuses on augmenting the query with pieces of information related to the actual context in which the query is typed. In this talk we will explore more in depth the differences between the two concepts and we will see some of theirs applications in modern search engines with particular reference to the Query Auto Complete feature of a search engine.
